┆Describing Frederick Lanchester’s work on musical reproduction in advance of lecture to be given in Birmingham Town Hall (see LAN/1/10/7). Reporter had interviewed Lanchester at his home at Moseley, Birmingham. The report includes a verbatim statement by Lanchester on his aims: “My aim has been to obtain a true rendering of musical values from the lowest bass notes to the highest in the treble and to get an equal distribution”. Lanchester’s speaker, it is said, differs from most others in emitting sound laterally and not in one direction only. A short note is given on the amplifier used, with some comments on the playing of particular records (e.g. a Sousa March b Bach toccata, a Wagner overture).
